Road Worthy Certificate – Safety Certificate

In Queensland, the official title of a road worthy certificate for a vehicle up to 4500 kg GVM is a 'Safety Certificate'.

Jose Street Auto Centre is an Approved Inspection Station in Nambour, meaning that we can supply you with a road worthy (safety Certificate) for any of the following reasons:

  • are ordered by the Police or Queensland Transport
  • have moved a vehicle to Qld from another state
  • register an unregistered vehicle in Qld
  • sell a registered second hand vehicle in Qld

When you purchase a registered second hand vehicle in Qld it must be accompanied by a Safety Certificate.
When registering an unregistered vehicle you must also supply a 'Compulsory Third Party' (CTP) certificate to the Approved Inspection Station for the legal road testing of your vehicle.

Unfortunately despite Queensland Transports efforts in making the roads safe, there are still many workshops that sign off on unroadworthy cars. At Jose Street Auto Centre we are committed to road safety meaning that we will never turn a blind eye to an unroadworthy fault. If you find a Safety Certificate signed by Jose Street Auto Centre you can be certain that car is road worthy.

It is always advisable that before you purchase a second hand car with a Safety Certificate, you have an independent pre purchase inspection done on the car in question.

Safety Certificate price in QLD is capped however changes annually. A Safety Certificate remains valid for 2 months or 2,000 kms on a private sale and 3 months or 1,000 kms through a licensed Motor Dealer.

When purchasing a second hand car a Safety Certificate is never enough. It is madness not to have an independent pre- purchase inspection done before committing to the sale.
